The NCURA Annual Conference is the main event for Research Administrators handling US Federal Funding. Now in its 59th year, this meeting brought together over 2,000 research administrators from across the globe. LEES attended to learn about key current issues for UK organisations in receipt of US Federal Funds, and to gain clarity on some of the complex issues emerging as a result of the  Uniform Guidance applicable to US Federal Awards. We produced a summary of issues relevant to UK Research Organisations, which is available on request.

The Association of Research Managers and Administrators‘ annual conference is a key event for anyone working within the field of Research Management. The annual conference is built around members sharing best practice and discussing current issues on topics across the field of Research Management, from pre-award to post-award. LEES attended with a promotional stand to network with delegates andco-chaired a session on audit and compliance as part of ARMA’s Special Interest Group in this field. Resources are available for ARMA members.

LEES gave three training sessions to administrators, researchers and investigators involved in Horizon 2020 projects, with the overall aim of enabling participants to prepare for financial audits. The sessions included specific details of the evidence required at audit and a focus on specific audit procedures that may cause sticking points compared to the previous programme, FP7.

We attended the first training session for First Level Controllers under the new INTERREG V programme for NorthWest Europe. The day ensured that we are fully cognizant with the complex rules associated with this funding stream in its latest programme.

Jonny and Ellenpresented two workshops on financial issues in US Federal Funding and how to prepare for a US Single Audit at the US-Swiss grants info day, hosted by EPFL. The presentations formed part of a wider programme events aimed at educating researchers and administrators about the opportunities available with US Federal Funds.

Jonny and Ellenattended the 2 Seas Programme‘s  initial First Level Controller seminar in September 2016 to receive bespoke First Level Control training in order to accurately certify financial claims under this new programme.
